Everything You Want to Know
What does Bigshot Toyworks actually do?
We're a creative agency and boutique manufacturer specializing in custom character design, toy development, and collectible figure production. We work with brands, studios, agencies, and artists from the very first sketch all the way through to finished, shelf-ready product — or we can jump in at any stage.
Who do you typically work with?
Our clients include global entertainment studios and IP holders, advertising agencies creating branded merchandise, consumer brands building mascot-driven products, toy companies, independent artists, and anyone looking to create custom collectibles, art toys, or promotional figures. If you have a character or concept, we want to hear from you.
What information do I need to get started?
As much or as little as you have. Ideally you'll bring concept artwork or existing brand assets, an idea of what product type you want (vinyl figure, plush, blind box, etc.), your target quantity, timeline, and budget range. Don't worry if you're still early-stage — we help clients develop ideas from scratch all the time.
Can Bigshot help design a character from scratch?
Absolutely. Our in-house art department offers full character design and development services — including original character creation, mascot design, brand ambassador concepts, and complete IP development. We've built original characters from a single mood board or even just a verbal description.
Do you offer 3D sculpting and modeling services?
Yes. 3D sculpture, modeling, and asset development are core to what we do. We produce production-ready 3D files for toys, collectibles, ad campaigns, digital applications, and phygital products. Our team can translate 2D illustrations and character art into fully engineered 3D assets optimized for manufacturing.
What file formats do you work with?
We can work with concept sketches, reference images, character sheets, existing 3D files, or brand guidelines. If you have 3D assets already, we can review and adapt them for manufacturability. If you're starting from 2D art, we handle the full conversion to production-ready 3D.
What types of products can Bigshot manufacture?
Our manufacturing capabilities include: vinyl figures and art toys, action figures, blind box collectibles, resin and polystone statues, plush toys, promotional figures, bobbleheads, inflatables, retail displays, event installations, and bespoke art objects. We also work on digital collectibles, AR experiences, and phygital products that bridge physical and digital worlds.
How much does it cost to make a custom toy or collectible figure?
Pricing depends on a range of factors: product type, size, complexity of the design, paint complexity, quantity, and packaging. Every project is quoted individually. The best way to get a real number is to share your project details with us — we provide transparent, detailed proposals with no hidden costs.
What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ) for custom figures?
MOQ varies by product type. For vinyl and plastic figures, manufacturing economics typically favor runs of 500 units or more to keep per-unit costs competitive. For smaller runs or high-end art toy editions, resin and polystone are excellent alternatives with no tooling cost. We'll help you find the right production method for your target quantity and price point.
Are there one-time setup costs?
Yes — for vinyl, plastic, and most injection-molded products, there is a one-time tooling and mold cost that is separate from the per-unit manufacturing price. Resin and polystone figures typically have no mold fee. We will always break this out clearly in your project proposal so you understand exactly where your budget is going.
Do quotes include shipping?
Our initial quotes are based on ex-works (EXW) pricing. Freight and logistics are estimated and billed separately, as costs vary by order size, packaged dimensions, and destination. We're happy to help coordinate shipping and can provide freight estimates once the project scope is confirmed.
How long does it take to make a custom collectible figure?
Lead times depend on product type and complexity. As a general guide: concept and 3D development can take 2–6 weeks, prototype production typically takes 3–5 weeks, tooling/molding (for vinyl and plastics) runs 5–8 weeks, and full manufacturing typically adds 5–8 weeks. Complex, highly detailed projects take longer. We'll give you a realistic, milestone-based timeline at the start of every project.
Can Bigshot manage the entire process end-to-end?
Yes — that's our strength. We offer comprehensive project management from concept to delivery, including creative direction, character design, 3D modeling, prototyping, manufacturing oversight, quality control, and logistics coordination. You can also bring us in at any stage if you've already done some of the work yourself.
What makes Bigshot different from other toy manufacturers?
Most manufacturers execute — we create. Bigshot is a design-first studio that also manufactures, which means every product is built with a deep understanding of aesthetics, brand, and cultural relevance. We don't just make toys; we create collectible experiences. With 20+ years of industry relationships and an in-house art department, we bring creative firepower that pure factories simply can't match.
We're an ad agency. Can Bigshot produce character-driven campaign merchandise and branded collectibles?
Absolutely — agency work is a major part of what we do. We've produced campaign collectibles, mascot figures, and character-led activations for agencies including Arnold Worldwide and Turner. We understand campaign timelines, brand standards, and the need for flawless execution at trade shows, retail, and in national advertising. See our agency work →
Can you help develop and license original IP?
Yes. Through our IP Incubator program, we develop and ship original intellectual property — and we help select partners do the same. If you have a character concept or brand with untapped merchandise potential, we can help you develop it into a full product line. Learn about IP Incubator →
Do you work on digital collectibles, NFTs, and phygital products?
Yes. We're actively exploring and building in new media — including digital collectibles, AR experiences, collectible gamification, and phygital products that connect physical objects to digital ecosystems. We've collaborated with leading projects in this space and continue to push into new territory. Explore New Media →
